Birnie Electric was awarded a $10,300,000-00 contract for the buildings at the EMSF site for Crosslinx Transit Solutions. This includes the Maintenance Building, VC Staff Building, OPSCO Building and VCID and Train Wash Building. This project is the start of the line for the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail project which will shape the public transit landscape for the City of Toronto.
The Eglinton Line is a 19 km corridor which includes 10 kilometres underground between Keele Street and Laird Drive. The project is an $8.4 billion dollar investment by the Ontario government. Work at the EMSF is scheduled to be completed November 2018 with the service to the line scheduled to begin in 2021.
